Allergy Letter
Food Allergies - Be Aware
Dear Parents/Guardians,
A student in your child’s class may have a severe food allergy to peanuts/tree nuts, and we here at Smith School are asking your help in keeping all food allergy children safe. These children, who are perfectly healthy in every other way, must watch every single bite they eat, or risk suffering a severe or even life-threatening reaction. Food allergies are responsible for over 30,000 emergency room visits each year and the guidelines below are rules that we like to follow, and we ask for you and your child to keep them in mind.
- We maintain a strict no food sharing protocol at school. Please reinforce this with your child.
- Please do not send any peanuts, peanut butter or peanut or nut products to your child’s classroom to be eaten as snacks in the classroom.
- Hand washing with soap and water is vital to stopping cross contamination.
- No food brought in for celebrations.
Please talk about these rules with your child. I will be speaking to the students as well.
In addition, please remember the following:
- Please complete the Daily Symptom Tracker before 8:30 am at the link below. https://tenafly.iad1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0qv2mQTjGGrgh7f
- Please send in 2 masks to school with your child each day, in case of breakage or misplacement.
If you have any questions, I can be reached at 201-816-7718 during school hours. Thank you so much.
