THS Students to Study Abroad

Tenafly High School proudly announces that six of our students were accepted into Council of International Education Exchange's  (CIEE) 2024 High School Summer Study Abroad Program. Our students were awarded over $16,000 in scholarships.

TMS Wins NJ Math Counts 2024

After placing first at the Bergen/Hudson county competition, our TMS team was invited to compete at the NJ state competition at Monmouth University on March 9th.  They went against the top teams from throughout the state and were awarded first place in New Jersey. 

With this win, Mrs. Glasser was asked to be the coach of the NJ team of individuals at the National Math Counts Competition in Washington DC this May.

THS Science Olympiad Team

Tenafly High School Science Olympiad Group has been collecting lots of medals at various recent events! In fact, this season is the first time that THS has won a medal in the Ivy League Science Olympiad Invitationals. Below is a summary of their recent accomplishments which has helped THS gain recognition amongst the Science Olympiad circle:

Princeton University Science Olympiad (PUSO) Invitational on February 3. More than 50 high schools from the East Coast region participated.

  • Chem lab: 6th place (Andrew Lee and Derek Cho, grade 12)
  • Fossils: 5th place (Kiran Muttiah, grade 10 and Edmund Hod, grade 11)
  • Optics : 5th place (Gangyun (Tony) Yoo, grade 11 and Derek Cho, grade 12)
  • Wind Power: 3rd place (Kai Song and Derek Cho, grade 12)

Columbia University Science Olympiad (CUSO) invitationals on January 27.

  • Wind Power: 1st Place (Derek Cho and Kai Song, grade 12)
  • Material Science: 3rd Place (Helen Yui and Andrew Lee, grade 12)

NJ Regionals held at Union College NJ on January 5. Twenty two teams participated -- THS placed 5th overall, qualifying to move onto the State finals to be held on March 14th at Middlesex College, NJ. The team medaled in the following events:

  • Air Trajectory: (Yuval Amitai, grade 10 and Noah Jackson, grade 10)
  • Chem Lab: (Derek Cho, grade 12 and Andrew Lee, grade 12)
  • Code Busters: (Dominic Miller, grade 11 and Insuh (Sarah) Baek, grade 11)
  • Fossils: (Kiran Muttaiah, grade 10 and Edmond Hod, grade 11)
  • Optics: (Yuanning (Helen) Hui, grade 12 and Derek Cho, grade 12)
  • Tower: (Ananjay Anchilla, grade 9 and Noah Jackson, grade 10)

THS Student Named Regeneron STS Scholar

SUBIN (CINDY) PYO  was announced among the top 300 scholars in the Regeneron Science Talent Search 2024, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious science and math competition for high school seniors. The 300 scholars will be awarded $2,000 each and their schools will be awarded $2,000 for each enrolled scholar.  See the full press release HERE

Cindy's research project is on "Metabolic Program of Intestinal Stem Cell in Pediatric Development and Inflammatory Bowel Disease".  She was also an author in a book chapter titled "Modeling Notch Activity and Lineage Decisions Using Intestinal Organoids" published in the journal Intestinal Differentiated Cells: Methods and Protocols, by Springer Nature (July 2023).

Congratulations to our 10 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists and 3 National Hispanic Recognition Program Award recipients.  We also have 21 National Merit Commended students.
